...and you can't buy one.

Yeah, that's right. No-can-do. Although Chevrolet went through the trouble of resurrecting what many gearheads considered the second coming of Christ, it seems like the brand is not going to make the Caprice available for public consumption. Which is odd, really, because many have said how the G8 was one of the best General Motors products in some time.

There is some good news though. The cars will make their way into the hands of fleets. So, I guess if you want to drive the G8/Caprice you'll have to either rent it or steal it from a police officer.

Good luck with that.

Anyhow, Autoweek recently had the chance to give the all-new Caprice police vehicle out for a spin. Check out their experience down below...

The article fails to mention that this car is sold in Australia as the Holden Caprice/Statesmen. This is not exactly the same as the car that was imported to the US as the G8 which was based off the Holden Commodore. This is a stretched version of that same Zeta platform.

Actually, that is addressed as you click through to the Autoweek story...

lol, this car has been on sale here in Dubai for over 3 years now under the caprice name. Heck, it needs a facelift, or an all new model as its old now.

the police-spec caprice is actually a bit larger than the G8. This would be a little bigger than the current Impala. Chevy should really get the Caprice as the range-topper in the lineup.

I like the engineer @ 2:05... "This is an overhead valve engine" (in case we thought GM was moving back to using flatheads).

It's amazing to me that with so much sheet metal to work with; rather than build something aggressive, imposing or even elegant, they somehow managed to build a car that equals the Camry in terms of boring, wimpy and cheap-looking. I hope someone creates a retro-70s show based around car chases so these things will get wiped out quickly.

I saw a white one for sale at a Chevy dealer over 4 months ago.

There were a few Chevy dealers using a loop-hole to sell the cars to civilians. GM quickly closed it before more than a handful were in civilian hands. (Source: Automotive News article I read a few months ago)
