I don't believe the purpose of delay is to let the new Imprezza get a foothold...just spin. The real reason is they don't want a new WRX or STI to steal the thunder/sales from the BRX when introduced.

I think the delay is due to the fact that the next gen WRX and STI models are going to be on their own unique platform and the Impreza will get its own unique platform.
