Cadillac Cancels ATS Convertible

Cadillac Cancels ATS Convertible
Recently news and spy shots regarding Cadillac’s ATS program have trickled out every week, even from GM themselves. Despite the fanfare around the program, GMI has learned of some negative news regarding Cadillac’s small car program. The originally planned convertible variant has been canceled.

Back in October GMI confirmed that three variants of the ATS program were under development. Both coupe and convertible models were planned to accompany the sedan, however both would launch several months after the sedan launches in 2012. A wagon variant of the ATS program was also slated very early on in development, but was canceled before the program was finalized. All variants were to be built on GM’s upcoming rear-wheel drive Alpha platform to combat the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes Benz C-Class.

Great news! This means that they can take some of the weight off of the car.

Yes, the problem with its weight is because the platform was designed to cope with so many different variants. By cutting out variants they will manage to get the weight down.

Wrong move...there is a wave of new baby boomers entering retirement with a yearning to buy a new Caddy convertible again ! There is also a large group of wives who will hound their husbands for a brightly colored Caddy convertible..."Afterall honey you did buy a Porsche GT3 RS for yourself." Build it Caddy and make Angelina Jolie
your spokesperson.

Absolutely correct PUGPROUD. My wife and I have been retired for 10 years and one of our 2 vehicles since then has always been a ragtop - currently a BMW 1er vert.
I've been waiting for GM to give me a reason to buy GM again and the ATS vert would have been on the top of the list to replace the current vert if it came close to a 3er in performance and priceing.
Too bad...

Dear GM, just reskin a Camaro, if you want a convertible in the Cadillac stable. Just learn from the XLR debacle and price it accordingly.
