Blackmail Or Good Business Sense?  China Forces Automakers To Share Proprietary Technology

In the past few months, numerous global automakers have disclosed plans to let their Chinese joint ventures produce electric vehicles.

General Motors, Daimler AG, Suzuki Motor Corp., Volkwagen AG and Nissan Motor Co. all have said that they will build EVs in China.

Why are these companies jumping in? It's not to satisfy consumer demand for EVs. In fact, EV sales in China are virtually nonexistent.

The automakers are doing so because Beijing wants them to.

Maybe i'm being paranoid here, but it sounds to me like they just want easier access to technology that they will then rip off and mass produce for their own people or to sell much cheaper to others.

I worked for company for thirty three years who did business in China
since the 1950's...the Chinese love their families above all else but believe deception (trying to be PC) in business is acceptable. Beware

It's blackmail, pure and simple! Why take the time to develop when you can buy or acquire by other means. The USSR copied America's Space Shuttle, China tried to copy America's F22 Raptor.

China is a builder, not a inventor.
