Bentley Planning Return To LeMans Racing Against Porsche And Audi?

Bentley is expected to announce its future racing plans next summer – and it could include racing a top line LMP1 car against VW Group stablemates Audi and Porsche.

“An LMP1 car would be a good way to go, but not the only possible way,” said Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer when asked about potential future race projects. “There is nothing saying the same brands can’t compete against each other – the only important thing is that the racing activity supports fully the brand identity.”

Pretty funny since it is all the same company racing against itself.

Think of it though:

Audi: Showcases diesel technology
Porsche: Showcases hybrid technology
Bentley: Showcases gasoline technology

All three are unique and benefit the group as a whole with advancements.

Does anyone actually read the articles anymore? Its not necessarily going to be in the LM P1 category. I'm surely expecting Audi to pull out of the P1 category, given the R18's 3 year life cycle will be over in time for the 2014 Porsche entry. I expect them to put funds into an open wheel racing series, VW maybe in IRL, Audi maybe in Formula 1. Or Audi will try to dump more money into its GT racing program.

As for Bentley, I am sure it will not be an all out racing program, maybe like in 2002 and 2003, where they just put out the vehicles as marketing tools for the launch of the Continental GT the following year. Thats all that it is, IMO. No way will Porsche and Audi race together as works teams.
