Three Years Later Why Is The Hyundai Genesis Still The Best Luxury Bargain On The Market?
The Genesis sedan, launched in June 2008 as a 2009 model, proved that value-oriented automaker Hyundai could craft a premium sedan to rival pure luxury brands.

Exactly three years later, the 2012 version of the Genesis sedan went on sale in June with notable updates to the exterior and under the hood.

Updates to the Genesis coupe that followed the sedan are "in the pipeline," Hyundai says.

Take some pics and submit a post. Interesting to see what you think and did it hold up well over three years?

The Genesis is not interesting. It is a BUICK.

No, really, it's a Buick, albeit a superbly designed one. It's a large luxury sedan that has no manual transmission option and - oh, my bad. I just looked up a Car and Driver review: "As it was introduced, the Genesis paired a flinty ride with floppy, blasé handling. The balance is vastly improved for 2012, with the ride smoothing out and the car staying a bit flatter in hard cornering..."

So it's only older Genesises (I honestly don't know how to pluralize 'Genesis') that handle like Lucernes. I hadn't read a review of a refreshed example. My apologies.

Are you saying you'd prefer an automatic? Are you missing a leg or what? I would take a manual over an autobox no matter what I'm driving. If you're the type who'd buy a giant luxury sedan, for starters, I'm already questioning your devotion to the automotive faith. But to choose an automatic over a manual? When you're fortunate enough to have a manual offered at all? On top of driving a limo, that's outright heresy.

Just because something is inexpensive dose not automatically make it a bargain.

Maybe im in the minority here but I just dont see how someone can put the Genesis in the same class as a 5 series, A6, M37 or E class dont get me wrong its a nice car but its a bargain and its interior reflects that. It looks dated, and the interior materials are not at the same level as the cars in the near luxury class. I see Genesis as more a Chrysler 300, Toyota Avalon, Nissan Maxima alternative and frankly not much of a bargain. If its interior was on par with other near luxury vehicles and yet offered a much lower priced it would be a bargain its interior is on par with the cars i just mentioned above. A car that is cheaper for a reason isnt a bargain.....

I guess it depends if you care about performance and handling as well as bell and whistles. Lexus is considered by many to be a luxury brand and it typically does not compare to the Europeans in those categories either.

Trust me the average consumer just looks at the surface and the price. The more informed consumer knows the difference and will pay to have the better vehicle.

Best bargain? Obviously Agent009 did not even bother to read to article he links to before giving his post a sensational headline. Sure, the specs and feature set look great for the price, but the refinement and the attention to details are simply not there. In the end, you get what you pay for, no more, no less.

The title of the article's headline is misleading. The reviewer obviously was not as impressed with the Genesis as the people who have purchased it.

Understandably, those Hyundai "haters"-and you know who you all are-LOL-will want to keep piling out in your desperate hopeless hope that you can slow the Hyundai Juggernaut.

Let the bashing continue.

I see Genesis as a primary competator to Lexus and Infinity. It's very close in amenities and quality. In the V6 it is more refined then the Infinity V6 and handles as good as a Lexus. The 5.0 V8 would have similar legs to both Infinity and Lexus. It may not have the ride/handling compromise quite yet. However those Koreans are very fast learners and the Genesis is a very good first effort.

"...handles as good as a Lexus."

Are you aware that you just insulted Hyundai?

Because the term "luxury" as it is used here describes a competitor of the Avalon and ES - the Genesis sedan is soft, couch-like, and too boring for me. But it appeals to the mass market (aka the people who bought 327,804 Camrys last year) without question.

It's the "Best Bargain" because Hyundai does not sell enough units to make a measurable impact on the sells of the other luxury marques. The other marques have enough built in profit per vehicle that a loss of a few thousand units sold does not impact them enough to lower their prices.

Also, Hyundai does not have the brand prestige of BMW, Infiniti, MB, Audi, Lexus, etc. If you ask most people if they would rather own a Genesis or lease a BMW 5 series, they'll lease the 5 Series.
