Mercedes Posts A 9% Increase In September Sales
Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported September sales of 23,897 vehicles, a 15.6% improvement over September 2010 (20,666) and the company's highest September volume on record.  On a year-to-date basis, the 182,314 vehicles sold represent a 10.3% increase over the 165,355 vehicles sold during the same period last year.

The highest volume performers for the month were the C-Class and E-Class model lines.  The all-new 2012 sporty C-Class – and gateway to the Mercedes-Benz brand for younger and first-time Mercedes-Benz buyers – led the pack with sales of 6,865, up 32.1% from September 2010.  The 9th generation E-Class followed with sales of 5,122 and the full-sized SUV, the GL-Class, finished third in volume with monthly sales of 2,541.  Additionally, sales of the newly launched 2012 CLS-Class posted a 399.3% increase for the month and sales of the new SLK roadster were up 50.8% over September 2010.

At the high end, the company sold 25 of its supercar -- the SLS AMG -- bringing its year-to-date sales to 454.

Sales of Sprinter Vans also increased by 121.3% for September with sales of 1,779 – bringing a year-to-date total of 12,452 (up 121.3 %).

Sales of the smart fortwo totaled 469 vehicles for the month (compared to the 422 vehicles sold in September 2010).

Separately, through the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) program, MBUSA sold 5,707 vehicles in September 2011, a decrease of -8.6%.  On a year-to-date basis, MBCPO sold 57,359 vehicles, a decrease of -5.9% over the comparable period last year.

Very quietly MB has added commercial sales on top of its passenger vehicle sales in order to look better. Very sneaky and unfortunate.

MeanVulcan: You need to analyze the sales If you take BMW brand alone 21,750 against 21,649 from MB. Now almost half the BMWs were 3 series, in the case of MB more than a quarter were C class. The S class was almost twice of the 7 series. So in the luxury department as far as I see the people still prefer MB when they have more to spend.

really? Because you'd have to have money to get a new CL or SL Benz or a new 6-Series BMW, and the new 6-Series outsold the Benz models almost 3-1 combined. Benz is also running $4000 in "conquest cash" for anyone wanting a new E-class or S-class who happens to have a vehicle at home that is a "luxury brand". Doesn't have to be traded in, doesn't have to be a competitive model, doesn't even have to be a late model car. Got a 15 year old Saab or Volvo wagon? Here's a $4000 towards an E/S-class. Benz is chasing the mythical sales crown harder than anyone (their incentive spending was roughly 50% higher than any other luxury brand), and they still won't get it.

BlackDynamiteMB,
I purchased my LS 460 and received 8K in incentives.
All the auto companies do it, not really sure what is your point. I really wanted an S Class or an A8 but both were outside my budget. The 8K in incentives sealed the deal.

Interesting that the B class is listed here.

BD,
You are correct but like I stated "all auto companies do this" not just the Germans.
We keep getting flyers from Lexus of Jacksonville stating that they will give me 5K above Kelly Blue Book's value to trade in my 2009 LS 460 and an additional 3.5K off a 2012 model or 7K off a 2011 model. With the current economy every company from homebuilders to automakers are doing whatever it takes to move their products.
What I find funny is that the lowest auto incentive I have received in the past few years was when we purchased our daughter's MINI, 500 off and a free auto transmission.

The C Class sales, particularly the coupe, are what's going to edge MB over BMW as their new model doesn't come out until the spring. We just took delivery of a 2012 250 coupe and it's a STRONG car, garnering lots of looks wherever we go. It'll also move their median age down from the current 57 yrs old to something more in line with BMW. And, yes, they are a dealin'... 7.5% off sticker, $1000 Conquest Cash, plus they threw in tint and a 2 yr maintenance package- Happy to let the ol' Lexus ES 350 go... Couldn't be happier with the car or the deal- Chaulk one up for the consumers... BK
