Honda Throws In The Towel On Japan And Puts Plans In Motion To Half Domestic Exports

Car maker Honda will cut in half its exports from Japan over the next ten years, due to the high pressure of the strong yen, according to the company’s president.

The company sees clearly that Japan can no longer be the world centre of its production and exports, Honda president Takanobu Ito said in an interview.

He said that Honda currently exports about 30-40 percent of its domestic production, but it will reduce the amount to 10-20 percent. “It is hard to sell overseas while fretting over currency movements,” Ito said.

As for thinking we make like small cars. big mistake, as it is I bet 1/3 or more people in North America aren't comfortable in Honda's because they are too small, I have one friend that doesn't fit, he is 6 foot 8inches, he has to buy full size trucks or SUVS, he isn't overweight, just big, so smaller? If it were me I would focus on bigger and more efficient, it's about time Japanese or Koreans made a larger vehicle, it could be an econobox but with a larger roof line and wider shoulder room.

Honda isn't going to stop making cars in Japan, just cars for export, they plan on doubling their small car output instead of making bigger cars to export to the US - it's called 'glocalization', just another example of Honda building cars where they are sold: Japan, US, wherever...sounds like a good business move to me.
