Could Kia's New GT Steal The Thunder Of Toyota's FT-86?
The Kia that wowed the Frankfurt Motor Show has opened its doors exclusively to Auto Express. Design director Peter Schreyer was keen to show us the bold concept that he believes can help take the company in a daring new direction.

He told us: “I wanted to make cars I would be proud to sit in, be seen in and to drive – and Kia didn’t build cars like that before.”

That’s certainly the case with the GT, which bursts with eye-catching details such as 21-inch propellor blade alloy wheels, a single-piece integrated LED tail-light and contrasting copper roof line.

Depends, would it be priced under $25,000, have about 170hp and weigh 2500lbs or less? I hardly think this 400hp car is in the same category. I think the new fwd Veloster would steal more sales then this car.

the veloster and the yaris are not in the same class the accent competes with that car but based on your oh so witty spelling of the car(sense the sarcasm) Im assuming facts are something your not interested in.

Veloster is a rip-off of a 2002 toyota concept!

Didn't know about that Toyota concept, Veloster definitely copied that concept. I thought Veloster was the first original design from Hyundai/kia but.....

BTW Kia GT looks nice and the engine numbers are very impressive. 3.3 V6T making same power as BMW's 4.4 TT V8 but comparing it with FT86 is foolish. FT-86 is a compact lightweight coupe and will be lot cheaper than this 400BHP flagship Kia sedan. Base V8 CLS and Audi A7 are more comparable rivals but Agent009 wouldn't accept the Germans as Kia's rivals.

Toyota needs to get back to designing cars like that on in the link. Their cars are so bland, people are likely to overlook the FT 86 no matter how good it is until it gets out there. People still don't even know of the Genesis coupe. Example, my friend wants an eclipse and I keep telling him the Genesis is light years better. First its RWD and second it has the 4g63 engine from the Lancer Evo so tuning it would be a blast, and to me would be a better engine than the 306 hp V6 option. It was a night and day difference between the two. The Eclipse looked too high, and the gaps in the fenders were so big it made the tires and wheels look like spares. The Genesis was far more tightly made and didn't look incomplete. The tires fit tightly in the fender wells.

It's hard to tell if you're actually being sarcastic or not. This concept has a 400hp engine in it. There is no way Hyundai will release this to the public at or under the price of the FT86.

Why do Asians of 1 country, hate asians from another? Huu is so funny - but it's obvious he's dealing with some self-confidence or identity issues.

009 - What is it with this obsession of yours on putting anything from Hyundai and Kia on a pedestal at the expense of Toyota? I'm not a Toyota fan (have never ever owned one in fact) and can think of 3-4 other makes before Toyota but your schtick is getting old. That and the Obama's fault for your garage door not working, and hybrid has no future.

It seems that Yen fan boys have become highly over sensitive to their insecurity about anything S Korean (Hyundai and Kia).

It definitely demonstrates a lack of confidence and growing admission that your brand (Honda and Toyota) has slipped a notch below the dominant brand status it once used to enjoy exclusively.

It must be a rude awakening for fans of declining brands.

the single piece LED light is not even original, so don;t see how the design boss can even gloat about it.. It's on the Toyota FT-HS concept seen 4 years ago, on a Honda NSX test mule see on Nurgburg ring..

huu do you honestly think the ft86 will have an sti motor put into it? Even as a higher trim option? It doesn't make sense, the sti motor will just weigh down the "lightweight" Toyota and increase the cost until you have something more along the lines of a 370z. Regardless, the FT86 and this Kia concept would never compete unless they make the FT86 into something it is not.

I don't think the STI motor would weigh it down. The Pro-Drive supercar has that engine and it was amazing when they showed it on top gear.

The engine in the FT86 is a smaller displacement engine with no inter-coolers or turbochargers. Of course the STI engine will weigh more, it's the same design but bigger...

A 4dr sedan essentially with a much higher price point. I'm not sure how that can be compared to fairly light weight 2dr sports car.

That is what I'm saying, I don't know why you had to argue againt my point by even thinking that this economy Toyota matches up performance wise against a car that will have double its power.

I agree with you Joe but on the other hand you really can't compare an FT86 with a base Veloster either. You might possible be able to discuss a Veloster Turbo with an FT86 when it comes out. A more likely comparison would be a Hyundai Genesis Turbo, however.

Huu, it's just sad that you live your life based on sweeping generalizations. Japan beats everyone, Chinese copy everyone, Koreans want to be white. You also have some issues with blacks as well from your past comments.

I mean, aren't you a Vietnamese living in Canada? Does that mean you cut down lumber with your asian gangster friends?

"Find me something China has done recently that no one else has."

How about holding more US public debt than any other country ever has. I'd say that's a pretty big accomplishment.
