Nardelli Retracts Critical Comments About Federal Sale Of Chrysler To Fiat

Former Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli backed off his comments that the Obama administration shouldn't have given Chrysler to Fiat SpA.

In an email to The Detroit News, he said he believes the Obama administration made the right decision — including its decision to give the Italian automaker control of Chrysler Group LLC.

Nardelli didn't deny his earlier comments, but said in the email: "I did not mean to suggest that the government did not make the right decisions about Chrysler and the auto industry. We fully understood and supported the government's decision to give Chrysler to Fiat," Nardelli wrote. "Needless to say, Chrysler was very appreciative of the government's understanding of the challenges it faced and its willingness to work with us to survive, an objective we both shared equally."
