Its time for this thing to go, its way too problematic and unreliable to be taken seriously, and on top of that it gets V8 gas mileage and 4 cylinder performance its a waste and is totally uncompetitive with today's sports cars and sports coupes..

if they could figure out how to get reasonable fuel consumption and stop it from drinking oil, the RX-8 would be a great car. It was definitely a unique vehicle -- that engine is small and light and that packaging allowed it to be mounted far enough forward to make a four door/four seat vehicle that actually looked like a sports car. And the handling was better than any of the competitors without punishing the passengers (hello, Nissan 350/370Z). It wasn't the fastest car but having driven them fairly extensively when they first came out they were in my opinion the most fun cars in the class to drive. The turbine-like sound and the stratospheric redline coupled with that chassis were truly something special. Ironically that engine was both the RX-8's best attribute and biggest downfall.

(above comments were for the stick version only -- the automatic sucked entirely)
