Really? WTF: A Fisker Crossover SUV?

Really? WTF: A Fisker Crossover SUV?
Remember way back in 2009 when an electric automaker, fronted by an unbelievably talented designer -- Henrik Fisker -- received over a half billion dollar in funds from the US government?

Well, now that things seem to have started rolling at Fisker, there are plans for expanding the line up. Predictably, it seems that the EV car builder will be lining up with the likes of other luxury brands who are going the way of the sport-utility vehicle.

Look what Porsche started with the wildly successful Cayenne!

According to reports from Auto Express, Fisker is looking to use its new "Project Nina" platform to shape an SUV that will price well in the luxury range.

[Insert sarcasm here] That makes a lot of sense considering electric cars are just selling out of showrooms left and right [End sarcasm].

I understand that Fisker has a whole bunch of cash burning a hole in its pocket, thanks to that large government loan, but it would probably be wiser to stabilize the company first before expanding its product lineup. Unless, of course, it has no faith in the Karma and upcoming Nina.

The Californian maker expanded its line-up by launching the Surf shooting brake estate at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show, but an insider told us “a crossover SUV is definitely on the cards”.

This will be based on a new platform that will debut on the forthcoming small saloon Fisker is readying under the codename Project Nina. The four-door will be similar in size to a BMW 5 Series, but will cost “about the same as a top-end 3 Series”, weighing in at around £40,000.

The Project Nina saloon will go on sale in 2013, with a range-extending hybrid powertrain like the Karma’s. But the engine will be sourced from BMW...

That should effectively cut the range in half while adding no additional passenger capacity.

I drove the Karma a couple of weeks ago on long island ( jaguar dealership ), the car is GORGEOUS, however it drives like absolute garbage, they claim it has over 400hp ( it felt like a camry).
ill give them the benefit of the doubt that they said its only a prototype but with all the delays, if till now they havent improved all the rattles, the terrible brake feel, and poor acceleration i dont know what to expect...

if this car was built the way it is ( looks wise ) but a pure gas version, i think i would have loved it.

if fisker comes out with great designs but a crappy driving experience they will die quick..
i went with true potential buyers 1 friend has a panamera the other a maserati quattroporte and both were disappointed..
( i have an M3 and cant afford the karma now that the price has gone from 85k initial reports to 105k now... btw there are no lease deals and no karma financing, either you have to go to your own bank and get a 100k loan or have the cash, in my opinion fisker not having financing at the dealership will make sales even harder )
at 105k all the big boys are better than the karma -- A8, 750, s550 and xjl

Low life gutter media is now using "WTF" obscenity as a headline expression.

Are there ANY standards for the media any longer? Do the ignorant young pup writers have any ethics or standards?

It is truly disgraceful and regrettable that the media has turned to filth and gutter talk to express themselves. Maybe they should learn to read and buy a Thesaurus to learn how to properly express themselves.
