AWESOME or AWFUL? Chicks Driving Sticks
I remember it wasn't too long ago we asked the Spy community which car really shows that she knows her autos. Now, we've got something a bit different. We want to know what you think of chicks with sticks.

You know, manual transmissions.

Considering standard gearboxes are a dying breed, somewhere around six percent of NEW cars are standards, it's impressive to see women driving a five or six speed these days.

But we have to ask: is this a turn on or turn off?

We imagine it would be thrilling to see a woman driving a manual just because its a sign of independence and strength. Welcome to the 21st century, gentlemen.

On the other hand, we can imagine insecure guys feeling less-than-masculine about females that have what it takes to shift themselves, especially if the guy drove an autobox himself.

What's your perception? Are women that are driving standard transmissions themselves a bit of a turn off or is it HOT HOT HOT?

I think everyones first car should be a stick. I'm restricted to buying automatics for my primary and secondary vehicles because my wife can't drive a Manual.

My wife has been driving stick daily for 10 years now. Still doesn't "get" it. I've been threatening the Porsche 7-speed on her.

I taught both of my daughters to drive a stick. One in a 1968 Beetle I had restored, for the other we bought a 1995 Nissan 200SX SE-R. Had no idea what the -R stood for before we bought it. Man, that was a little pocket rocket. Everyone wanted to drive her car, but she was too smart for that :)

And my wife drove a stick when I married her. 1971 Super Beetle she bought new right out of high school. Had to replace the clutch for her right around 100,000 miles. She drove a stick very well.

When I met my wife she was 17 and driving a 4spd Pinto wagon with a Hurst T-Handle. Didn't care for the Pinto but her shifting the T-Handle....Well You know.
