There's a purchasing revolution going on at Toyota, and it could generate some shock waves among the world's parts suppliers.

The March 11 earthquake and the sharp rise of the yen have undermined the automaker's confidence in its Japanese supply base. And now we are witnessing the consequences:

Standard components that can be used on a Corolla or a LS-460l. Genius! Toyota is the best at manufacturing. This just shows their sheer brilliance. Expect big things from this brand

Actually the parts makers would probably make it standardized across the industry. That means your gas pedals will be the same in different brands etc....

Sounds like genius on the surface until you realize that one defect will encompass tens on millions of cars at a time. That means one recall could take years to fix.

this is if you have a real problem with a gaz pedal , it will make companies like GM think twice before making a big propaganda campaign against others.

Hearing this makes me keep away from Toyota even more, can anyone remember the cheap quality of metal that has been and probably still being used in there trucks? The Tundra's spare tire falling out due to rust... this was one of Toyota's ideas to save a few bucks, cheap metal blends to save money, this is a fact, not an opinion,so if Toyota wants the suppliers to make it cheaper it may also lower the quality, I think it is a good idea to share parts but only within the one company, as Agent009 has pointed out, can you imagine a recall if all manufacturers had to recall the same part.

Lower prices usually means lower quality. Stands to reason why toyota would demand this.

To my knowledge, only Toyota demanding lower prices on already accepted upon terms. If they didn't like the costing they shouldn't have signed the contracts in the first place! I also believe that it is only Toyota that is trying to standardize components between manufacturers. If Toyota had its way, Ford and Toyota would be made of the same components made in China!

If any of the manufacturers were trying to break contract terms you would hear about it through an onslaught of legal action (especially in America).
