Drove the coupe and it was a hoot...however, far far less practical than
the other Mini models. A hard choice unless it was the third car in your stable or your first car ever bought, young and carefree. While the Works set up is nice Mini needs a really high performance rally version for the street to create more buzz and sales. Right now its lever is balanced too much toward style and eye candy...need a beast to attract more male buyers.

Mini had an oppotunity to differenciate the Coupe more from the standard Mini line. Instead they made it simply an alternative "body Style". True there might be a tiny acceleration advantage and a tiny handling advantage. However it does not justify the steep price differential over the hatchback.
The first problem is there is no difference in HP and format over the hatch. Essentialy it is the same length and width.Mini could have made the car about 3 or 4 inches longer for a proper convertable and coupe look. Anotherwords given it more the look of a classic British sportscar like a Triumph TR6 or an MGB. Therefore they could have developed the car off the Clubman platform as it being bigger. The Clubman and the Countryman are different vehicles to the standard Hatch. The coupe and the upcoming spider are not. I'm sure this was done for cost considerations. However simply charging more for basically the same platform with a less efficient body style will not transform into increased sales. This was a bad move by BMW.

Mini has yet to match the pure desirability of the first gen revived Mini hatch. Design, design, design. It was right in every proportion, and sold very very well. Since then no other Mini variant has hit this magic spot in design. It has failed by resorting to contrivances, some awkward to most buyers. Agree?
