Has Volkswagen Begun Selling It's Soul To Become Popular In The US?

As its sales soar and its vehicles get more appealing, Volkswagen has run afoul of the miffed-hipster effect.

Some of the brand's most devoted fans have become its harshest critics. They say VW has "dumbed-down" its cars and abandoned its German character to appeal to more Americans.

They are the automotive equivalent of the twerp at a party droning on about a band that was great until it sold out and got popular.

lol, I never realized that 90's and early 2000's vw's were desirable.

I guess the GTI, Jetta, Passat, and new Beetle all came in to their own then. The Corrado was noteable.

Aside from the Beetle, the other cars you mentioned had a very small following and weren't very desirable compared to the competition.

I know what the Corrado is, I never really liked the whole box shape car thing that was popular back when I was younger.

Sold out what? I don't remember Volkswagen ever being a particularly hot commodity.

Not sure about selling out, my wife loves 2008 Touareg (V8) and the new one seems to be even a better vehicle. BTW the CC and GTI are awesome cars.
