Ford Announces Spec Race Cars Will Be Available To The Public

It's not only auto racers who figure to benefit from two new turn-key racing cars Ford unveiled at the recent Frankfurt auto show. Components used in those vehicles figure to enter the aftermarket product pipeline before too long, enabling owners of, say, any Ford Focus to soup up their own vehicles for use on the road or at a track-day or autocross event.

The two racing cars Ford unveiled at Frankfurt, and which it plans to show to North American enthusiasts next month at the annual Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, are the Focus ST-R and the new Formula Ford open-wheel racer.

While at first glance the ST-R may look like any other Focus — except for its wheels and the racing emblems that cover its body — the car actually is a purpose-built-at-the-factory racing machine designed to compete in the Grand-Am ST category, World Challenge TC (touring cars) and the Canadian Touring Car Series.
