Marchionne Places US Expansion Of Alfa Romeo Ahead Of European Reputation

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne says he will appoint an Alfa Romeo boss for North America by year end, as he seeks to get a footing in the U.S., before turning his attention to Europe.

He says it will be easier to re-establish Alfa's credibility in the U.S. than in Europe. The sporty Italian brand's image has been eroded in Europe by years of mediocre quality, outdated engines and aging vehicles that parent Fiat S.p.A. waited too long to redesign.

Nice! If they are expanding their market than they will likely require to keep their engines updated. Cause they sure look sweet!

Interesting move. However Alfa sales in Europe for the past 10 yrs have been abismal. Alfa has been out of US since 1994. In essence it could be considered now a clean slate like Fiat.Further since there will be platform sharing with Chrysler vehicles and the possibility that some or all the cars may be built in the US it seems a natural.
