What's The MOST Miles YOU Ever Put On A Personal Vehicle?
Something tells me you probably haven't come as close as THIS guy. Joe LoCicero from Maine.

After picking up a used 1990 Honda Accord from a dealer in '96, LoCicero proceeded to rack up over 1 million miles behind the wheel. If I had to wager a guess how it was possible, it likely wouldn't have anything to do with the fact it's a Honda -- he was a technician (a.k.a. if you take care of your car it'll take care of you).

With that said, what is the most amount of miles YOU have put on ONE vehicle?

I'll start this off...

60,000 miles in my VW Touareg.

Discuss!

Getting to a million miles isn't typical. But neither is Joe. See his remarkable story:

Joe LoCicero, from Norway, Maine, drove his 1990 Honda Accord to one million miles. Congrats Joe!

Driving a Honda for a million miles is an extraordinary feat. So how did Joe do it? For starters, he's read and followed his owner's manual and maintenance schedule to the letter. He's also a stickler for fluids, he checked them weekly, switched them seasonally (10W-30 in summer and 5W-30 in winter), and changed them every 5,000 miles. He's been loyal to the same brand of oil and never let it go below a quart low.

You know how most people let their fuel go to almost empty? Joe never did. He's also a creature of habit, using only Honda air, oil and fuel filters. Joe never rode heavy on the brakes, and changed the fluid every few years. He's also replaced the fuel pump, both cooling fans and the radiator twice.

Besides his fastidious maintenance, Joe's Accord made it to one million miles because he's loved it. He's treated it with respect and always drove it responsibly. In fact, Joe has only gotten one speeding ticket in a million miles—that must be some kind of record. When it comes to driving, Joe's the man.

He's actually passed 3 million miles in his '62 (I think) 1800.

Personally, I never get passed the warranty... Except my '08 535xi got to 58k. I pale in comparison. No contest.

There is a guy in France who put over 1.5 million kilometers on his 1976 Fiat 131 Mirafiori. All he did was regular maintenance, avoiding city traffic and allowing the engine to properly warm up. This was big news on a forum I frequent. The link is in German but it's evidence nonetheless.

My highest mileage was about 210,000 miles give or take in my old '97 Mercedes E320 Sport. I miss that car. If it hadn't been stolen in '05 I still would be driving it today probably. Those were the days when I drove A LOT visiting clients here and there across the country.

I have a 1984 Toyota Tercel station wagon it has 299,050 miles on it, I still drive it to work three days a week. Its rough but still running. My son and his friends called it the "stipe mobil" because I looked a little like Michael Stipe the singer. I call the car "optimist prime" because it has outlasted other cars that myself and other people that I know have owned.

"Quebec taxi driver Joseph Vaillancourt maintains the North American mileage record with a 1963 Plymouth Fury that he drove to over 1.6 million miles before the taxi was involved in an accident that required the frame to be realigned."

---------

My wife and I added another 116,000 miles to a '93 Chrysler New Yorker that I purchased at 100K. Sold it, then saw it a year later on Craigslist. Two minivans within our immediate family with the same 3.3L V6 drivetrain had well over 200K on the clock before they were both stolen.

Personally, I have no desire to own the same car for a million miles. Sounds rather dull.

I had my 1998 Audi A4 until 235,000 before I sold it.

It is currently still running with over 250,000 on the odometer. Nothing major over the course of ownership. Paint and interior are in remarkable shape.

60k on my first car, 96 Honda Accord.

80k on my Toyota Prius (flame suit on) until someone decided to run into my driver side fender rendering my car a total loss.

Current 08 STi with 42k and counting.

185k on a Honda Accord. What a POS.

Now I would never keep a car past the warranty period. Cars are way too high tech now.

My 1987 Toyota 4x4 pu , I put 450,000.ish km in 4.5 years, I fixed the head gasket twice, I went through a lot of shocks, mufflers and lots of rust, it burned oil near the end, The clutch was original exept for the hydraulic slave cylinder, the brakes were done countless times for regular maintenance, the idler arm and tie rods were changed a lot, every year and a half, I had to truss the front of the frame together to stop the spreading every time it bottomed out, and it bottomed out every day driving around town, it is supposed to do this apparently, how pathetic, they should have kept the solid axle like the Australians did.

Attention Toyota fans, have you owned and logged on as many miles as I have on just one of my Toys? Do you think I am making stuff up about the poorly designed frame/front suspension, any Toyota nut knows this, they are all trussed, also the idler arms are another weak point...I was deboosted, back up your disagreement! From 1986-1995 the torsion bar suspension bottoms out everywhere, unless you are on smooth roads all the time, I even double shocked all of my Toyotas and increased the spring rate to no avail, off road it would bottom hard everywhere, and yes when it bottoms hard it knocks your alignment out, that is why they need to be trussed...

Deboosted by ignorance, back up your blind faith in Toyota! If you think I made this stuff up research what I said, you will then know the truth, even after that I bet you will still deboost the truth.
