No replacement for displacement :) I am glad they aren't trying to stick in a tiny flammable Italian engine in it.

BMW and Audi have 22mpg cars with over 500hp?

A turboed, V6 Viper wouldn't be a Viper anymore. Muscle cars need naturally aspirated, big-displacement engines to qualify as muscle cars.

Actually if you look at the European fuel economy ratings the M3 (and others) are rated much better than the Viper. In the EPA test it's all about gearing and that's how the Viper manages a decent rating.

European ratings are easier period. If the viper was tested with the European testing metric it would rate better as well.

That's not what I said, if you look up the European ratings the Viper is rated significantly worse than the M3 in fuel consumption using the same test.

Agree with pondosinatra and Joe_limon, the next thing is what? someone else come out with a 10.7-Liter engine with 5 mpg?.....stick with class BMW and Audi with small engine and performance is still superb....

The germans seem to be having a difficult time with it too... with 30% less power the m3 still achieves similar fuel economy numbers despite using "technology and engine building know how".

The M3 is geared lower because it is a much higher revving engine. Gear the viper the same way the M3 is geared and it would be lucky to get 10mpg in the city and 16 on the highway.
