With The All-New BMW 1-Series, What Is There To LOVE or HATE? Top Gear Weighs In
While the all-new BMW 1-Series definitely has some questionable design traits, there's one thing we are interested in learning morre about -- the car's driving dynamics.

Interestingly enough, it looks liike Top Geark magazine, from the UK, has actually grown fond of the 1-Series...

...But the new 1 looks to the 5-Series GT for visual inspiration instead, which is a bit like asking Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's child-catcher for parenting tips. Bigger lights, enlarged forward-leaning double kidney grille, three-section air intake, with four distinct contour lines to add some visual tension: it's all going on, but rather than looking sporty, the new 1 merely looks like a car that's just discovered that its phone's been hacked....

...I like this car a lot. Everyone still bangs on about BMW's peerless driving dynamics, but the fact is that the Munich legend means something different these days. The 120d is one of the most energetic diesels I've ever driven, its auto 'box is terrific, and it's so clean I'd dearly like to drive it into eco-man George Monbiot's Toyota Prius. So that's what it's for...

Front end is not bad it is shocking. Looks like an alien face or some cartoon with huge eyes and small head.

Yuk, yuk, and yuk. First BMW pulls a Camry (a refresh trying to pass itself off as a redesign) with the 3-series, not they produce this monstrosity. BMWs are ugly cars. I thought that I would never say this but bring back Chris Bangle.

The one series has been receiving very positive review so far, it even won a 20 car hot hatch shoot out by autoexpress.

How many of you guys commenting on this vehicle have actually seen it in Metal form and not on a screen ?

I had a good look at one parked on a UK street for more than 10 minutes {Owner probably thought i might have been thinking of stealing it}

The vehicle is infinitely better than the model it replaces, the overall dimensions are much better, the interior is a HUGE IMPROVEMENT, In person the vehicle is not as polarizing as it looks in photos.

As a BMW fan, what where they thinking?

Between this and the new M5 producing fake engine noises through the audio speakers....Ugh!

regarding the M5s noise...turbo engines are by nature not vary noisy, second the M5 is a luxury car that performs like a sports car, and is able to play both rolls at the push of a button. When in comfort modes its quite, and when your in sports mode you hear it..giving you the best of both worlds. Also almost every review of the new M5 has said its one of the best sounding M cars to date..

car750i, I know what you mean about the M5. But I would prefer true mechanical baffles in the exhaust system (a la Aston Martin or Porsche). Just push a button and the exhaust actually gets louder when the baffles move, rather than playing louder exhaust noise over the stereo system.

Will the hatch make it to North America this time?
