A SEXY Subaru? Advanced Tourer Concept Looks Like A Japanese Audi
Well, well, well. It looks like one Japanese brand may be turning over a new leaf.

For a long time Subaru has had my respect, that's because it produces incredible products; however, there was one problem: overall, the cars weren't exciting.

Sure, they could trudge through the snow, AND take a walloping from the worst drivers on the planet while still running. But they simply lacked excitement. When the brand's HUGE seller is the Forrester, you know there will be perception problems.

Given what's in the pipeline though, it seems Subaru's out to change that.

Take, for example, the BRZ joint project with Toyota. While Toyota is going to take the low road with its car, Subaru is more than happy to tout the BRZ STI, which will appear at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.

However, an incredibly important product that will not be making it to Los Angeles, but will be on display in Tokyo is the Advanced Tourer Concept. If I were to try and pin down it's design inspiration I would guess it's one part Audi A7 and one part Subaru WRX STI, which equals awesome.

Could Subaru be the next big thing if it can inject some excitement into its products?

@1911

That's why I said PART Audi A7 and PART WRX...

The A7-look is clearly the headlights and gaping "mouth"...

That looks more akin to the Ford Focus Electric than this Subaru concept...

A WRX with more capacity/refinement is an intriguing option.

Looks like Kia Cadenza fascia with Audi's grille. Subaru is one of my favorite brand, kept many Subarus especially Legacy. Subaru got many positives like unique nice sounding engines, sporty interior with nice driving position, great AWD, road grip and handling is fantastic and it is built very nicely it feels like a tank. But exterior styling and thirsty engines are the weak points. Hope they improve in these areas and they will be near perfect and untouchable in their respective classes.

As an owner of a subbie, completely agree with you.

I'm usually not one to point fingers and say "they copied this and that" but in this case I have to agree. I see a lot of Audi styling cues in this design. Even the mirrors look like they were inspired by that Audi Nuvolari concept from a few years ago.

You can't possibly look at the front of this Subaru concept and not see that it is a blatant Audi rip-off. The shape of the grill, the headlights and the crisp vertical line at the outside edge of the headlights are all stolen from Audi. Mind you, I'm not an Audi fanboy, nor do I hold any bias against Subaru. It's just an obvious fact. For those who disagree, look at the picture below and tell me why I'm wrong:
