Toyota Recalls 550,000 Vehicles For Defective Power Steering Pulleys
Toyota Motor Corp. announced today a recall of 550,000 vehicles globally to replace a crankshaft pulley on V6 engines. The company said the faulty pulley may cause the drive belt to slip away and fail to drive the power steering pump, which would result in the loss of power steering. Approximately 80 percent of the affected vehicles are in the United States, the company said in a release.

Hey 009 any reason you didn't include the second (and only other) paragraph? The one that mentions no accidents due to this recall.

A loss of power steering doesn't mean that the car loses all steering. It's an inconvenience issue not a life threatening issue.

Ive driven an old 1984 (huge car) with no power steering for years. It's only a problem at low speeds.

This is what happens when you force your vendors to be the lowest bidders.

This is what happens when you let a car that used to be bulletproof and reliable get engineered and designed here with American parts. Camry's of the 90's never ever broke down. Granted they were bland but one could not contest their reliability or longevity unless they are a clueless or biased person. They should have learned after seeing the quality and workmanship of their American competition in the late 70's 80's and 90's before Americanizing their once great product. Kind of what BMW did when building the X5 here in the states. It had to be the worst quality BMW i have ever encountered.

Don' forget the plants in Canada and Mexico that are producing cars with assorted defects .Lets' place the blame to all the plants , not the US plants

Joe Limon. . . I've gotta give you credit for a fair and unbiased comment!!! LOL

And, most of the vehicles "recalled" are well out of warranty. Not that 009 would care to share that part of the story. . . To me, just shows Toyota being Toyota! And yes, that's a good thing!!!
