Why has Audi chosen the Le Mans 24-hour race to launch its first diesel engine in a racing car?
The prototype regulations for the Le Mans 24-hour race leave the engineers a lot of room to manoeuvre and it is currently the most interesting motor sport category for us from a technical point of view. No other class offers a car manufacturer such a wide range of possibilities to implement new technologies and to test them for series production, especially in the engine sector. What is more, the Le Mans race covers the distance of almost a complete Formula 1 season within just 24 hours. That is a very powerful argument for us.
