LOS ANGELES AUTO SHOW: TWO VWAG Luxo-Sport Bardges, ONE Choice - S8 vs. Panamera GTS
You've got approximately six figures to drop on a luxury vehicle but you want something more on the sporting side. That whole leisurely drive thing never was your style; however, you DO want something you can throw the kids or clients into and shuttle them from point "A" to point "B."
In addition, you want a vehicle that will have a jaw-dropping interior and will be able to entertain you on a ride home after a long night at the office. What do you do?
You could VERY well opt into an S63 AMG but then you'd be like everyone else -- you want something more original.
With that said, the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show brought two VERY special new cars: the new Audi S8, and the new Porsche Panamera GTS.
Although they both are two
very
different products -- in terms of approach and style -- they do align on several points:
1) Large, luxury sedans
2) High performance
3) Exquisite cabins to be in
4) Can double as a vehicle to be driven in
So, what's it going to be?

Neither.
Give me a Turbo Panny "S".
But.......
If I was FORCED to choose between GTS/S8 I'd probably take the Audi simply because it is more rare than the Porsche and doesn't scream "look at me" like the GTS.
But what I really want is a 4 door Aston DBS.
If only Bez would make it- would sell waaaay better than the Rapide....just my 2 cents....

I'd happen to agree.
While the S8 is an awesome vehicle, it just doesn't have nearly as much juice as the Porsche.
Plus the GTS has to weigh less -- totally assuming here.

GTS can pull extra duty tearing up country roads on weekends before loading up the hatch at Home Depot.

I'd take the Panamera...in a shade of blue. Can't see myself driving that red one.

Can we get a little less carbon fiber inside?

well, a direct comparison isn't really realistic since the Panamera in this trim level with probably be around $150,000 out the door and the S8 will be probably around $110,000. That $40,000 difference won't be an issue with many wealthy clients shopping at this level but for actual working execs who do have to worry bout a morgtage payment too the Audi will probably win out on price alone.

I'd take the more comfortable S8. Although, if I had the opportunity for a "track day", I would obviously take the Porsche.

Panamera. Reviews for the S8 have not been the greatest.

That S8 interior is deliciously German.
