UAW Plans To Start Picketing Dealerships Of Non-Union Automakers

The United Auto Workers union, whose leader has staked its future bargaining power on organizing U.S. plants of Asian and European automakers, plans to start pressuring the companies through dealership campaigns.

Regional UAW representatives trained members about how the campaign will work at UAW Local 2209 on Nov. 19, said Mark Gevaart, president of the local in Roanoke, Indiana. The union hasn’t selected the automaker it will target and didn’t discuss when the drive will begin, he said in a phone interview.

I believe the intent here is to embarrass the automaker.. They have no clue. In the south that could benefit the non UAW support.

This is retarded, they are going to pull union workers out of productive union based plants to picket against their competition? Can somebody please tell these people to just get back to work and mind their own business? Or is actually working something that wasn't in the Union Agreements?

They have a need to replace the dwindling ranks. Also with the current economic climate in Japan, it is cheaper to expand and build here. So they are going where the jobs are.

Didn't Ronald Reagan fire the union air traffic controllers when they threaten to go on strike. Just fire their a@@. Many of them are nothing but a bunch of pot smoking dinosaurs anyway. Why do we still have these crazy unions around. They drive up the price of the car with their health care, retirement and other "demands". Fire them please.

He and they did more than threaten. They did walk off, and Reagan gave them 3 days to return. They didn't, so in effect they quit. And that's why I got the job. I signed a paper that said I would not strike the US Government. So did they, and they were gone.

Of course, that's comparing apples to oranges. The UAW does not have no strike clauses in their contract (not withstanding the current ban because of the current financial situation), and if the contract has expired there is no legal reason to stop them from striking. Of course, striking in today's economy is just plain stupid, although I rarely support a union's position during any strike.

The UAW needs to be dissolved. What a bunch of whiny ass babies! No wonder American cars sucked so bad up until recent. If they had even a remotely decent work ethic the big3 wouldn't have shuch cheap plastics that fall apart and don't line up. UAW is the main reason I will NOT buy American now, along with the fact that nothing we have can compare to the Passat in terms of handling and performance. It blows the doors off of the regal GS to 60 by almost 2 seconds even though the regal is smaller. If you want a car and don't want to move up to BMW, Mercedes, Audi ETC. The Passat is unbeatable. I am actually going to buy my wife a Passat TDI in the next few months. She drives an ML320 now, but I am trying to get her something more fuel efficient since she travels alot. the Camry is reliable but too bland, and along with all of the others, does not offer a Diesel, plus the competition is so bland and boring to drive compared to the Passat.

I made it a habit now,to not buy anything made by union people.
I will not hire a union plumber or any other trade that is union member.
I hope more people will follow, let the union pigs starve......

The communist unions are a danger to all workers. They insert themselves into the system and cost workers big money in return for nothing.

It is like organized crime. They are an extra middleman workers have to pay.
