Volkswagen Performance R Series To Begin Showcasing AWD And Diesel Technologies
The Volkswagen R performance sub-brand isn't just a niche cog in the massive machine known as the Volkswagen Auto Group. If R GmbH's heads are to be believed, it's an instrumental component of the German automaker's push to offer something for everyone. And after speaking with the two men shepherding R into the future, it appears that good things are on the way.

With the Golf R set to go on sale in the U.S. early next year and R-branded performance parts already proliferating throughout VW's core products, Ulrich Riestenpatt gt. Richter, R's Executive Director, and Dr. Hendrik Muth, R's marketing head, are looking to the future.

But the hybrid excels in stop and go, while the diesel excels on the highway. Two different cups of tea there.

While our hybrid (yeah I have one), CAN excel in mileage, it is only under specific conditions. Our real world driving in our environment it doesn't give the expect advantage.

We do live in the city, but all of the artery speeds over well over 50 MPH. To get from point A to point B 80% of the time will be over 60 MPH. At that point the Hybrid is out of it's element most of the time.

That would depend on you actually reading the article. The rules favor Electrics and Hybrids but fail to acknowledge Diesels.

The majority of diesels can deliver better mileage than the EPA indicates due to outdated and non real world testing procedures. That is why you can see some pretty extreme electric mileage claims. The vehicle can be programmed to never use the gas assist under the testing guidelines. Real world is different.

VW just wants a fair playing field.

BTW if you were paying attention we posted that two days prior to the link you provided.
