Preowned Car Shortage Continues To Drive Prices To Record Levels
Certainties include death, taxes and aging cars losing residual values. But lately some people aren’t so sure about the latter.

Automotive appraisers scratch their heads when they look at the high prices some used vehicles fetch these days on both the wholesale and retail markets.

"These are supposed to be depreciating assets,” but that’s not always the case when “odd-ball” vehicles defy conventional wisdom by drawing premium auction bids, says Ricky Beggs, managing editor of Blackbook, a value guide.

I just ran a NADA on my 2010 CC and the used car retail value is only $750 lower than retail a year ago with 10,000 extra miles. Essentially the car APPRECIATED if I hadn't driven it.

At least in the Seattle area, most dealers seem to use NADA rather than KBB. That's the book I've always seen them with.

Badgewhore2 I am just amazed by your ignorance. What are you, 15?
"Plus U'll never get anywhere near what book value is on the street unless its a Lexus or Acura" I welcome you to come in to Lexus of Jacksonville and ask how much they are willing to give me for my LS 460. Not that much! As a reminder, all cars depreciate and none are a good investment unless you are buying an exotic. You must be a total loser if you base your car purchases on depreciation, LoL!

Wranglers hold outstanding value. They are a culture. Unlike Land Rover (I own a Discovery II) many Jeep Wrangler owners actually utilize them for their purpose, and that is to go offroad. I use my Discovery for its purpose, and that is also offroad. My buddy has a Wrangler, I have a Discovery, we both enjoy offroading and the outdoors together. He is very impressed with the offroad capability of my Discovery, and I also applaud his Wrangler for the top down free feeling and how it brings you so close to nature when you take off the doors and hit the trail. I like the fact that My discovery will go anywhere his Wrangler will (his isn't a Rubicon) in so much comfort. And contrary to what people say about their reliability, my Discovery has been trouble free aside from a window regulator and door lock actuator. I bought it with 64,000 miles on it. I now have about 110,000 on it, and many of those miles are rough service towing cars on my car trailer and driving on rough lease roads, with some recreational offroading here and there.

Badgewhore2, you sound exactly like a 13 y/o with your responses and trantrums about your love affairs with Japaneses brands. Yes, I am an "old fart" 44 y/o graduate of USNA, have an MBA, retired 2 years ago as an CDR and have traveled and live all over the world. Currently, a sales executive for Allergan, extremely open minded and willing to purchase anything I can afford but NOT fooled by the sales gimmicks that people like myself create to ensure uneducated fools like yourself fall in love with certain brands. Its marketing at its best! Good luck living life limiting your options to a few brands! I would love to continue wasting my time with you and watching CNBC but I have to go in to my office.
BTW I have an LS 460 for sale, looking to trade in for a use GTR or M3. Since you love LEXUS, I am sure you will give me top dollar for it. Right?
