WHICH Will Be The MORE Collectible Car In 10 Years And Why?
One thing about German vehicles is that they're not always the MOST alluring and MOST attractive vehicles; however, there is usually an element of utility and there are some quirky design aspects.

But my God, when the Germans do it right, they really go all out.

For example, when BMW built the 507-inspired Z8, it took a dash of retro styling and planted the E39 M5's V8 under the hood, thus creating a phenomenal top-down cruiser.

Or how about the Audi R8? The brand with the four rings liberally utilized some pieces of the Lamborghini Gallardo and blam-o(!), it created a mid-engine supercar that some claim is the best. Ever.

More importantly though, we're a bit curious:

WHICH will be the MORE collectible car in 10 years and why?

Here are the list of sports car that I think that will be a collectible 10 years from now (FYI, in no particular order):

1. Nissan GT-R/R35 2012 model (0-60 in 2.6-2.7s + one of the fastest affordable super sports car around the Nurburgring)
2. Audi R8 V8 (look at it and you know why + it have a Lambo engine with the V10 model)
3. Lexus LF-A (listen to it F1 exhaust note and you know why)
4. Lambo Gallardo LP 560-4 (It's a Lambo, listen to it madness exhaust note and you will agree)
5. BMW M3 with a V8 (It's a BMW M3 w/V8)
6. Lambo Aventador (It a Lambo with the spec to back it up)
7. Porsche 911 Turbo S (Porsche best Iconic sports car for the last what 50+ years?)
8. Aston Martin V8 Vantage (one of the best looking sports car out there + it's a Aston Martin

Have a Happy Thanksgiving day and Holidays Season Autospies and it members!

The Z8 will be worth more then the R8 in ten its not currently for sale and the R8's sales numbers keep dropping and dropping. If audi continues to flood the market with this 5 year old design they will absolutely ruin future resale.

the Z8 may be worth more but only because it did not sell well to begin with. The R8 is an awesome car but sales numbers may push it into the common supercar status.

The R8, as awesome as it is in its design, does need a styling remake, not because it looks old, but because it needs to be a unique car with limited sales per model year.

Z8 price hasn't hardly moved a bit since it sold, practically no depreciation. But I think what makes it collectable above the R8 is that Audi is proud of the R8 and will keep it going, whereas BMW is seems almost ashamed they ever built such a beautiful, curvy classic.

Z8 had so many suspension and frame issues that it will not be part of that list, and if it were , the owner (If knows) won't drive it cause the dampers could destroy the frame, that car was a limited production, less of 6,000 were build)produced from '99 to 2003 only, (this fact alone, put the Z8 of this list cause we are talking of cars in production right now). The R8 is not limited production but even in that case its appeal is a success from the very beginning and till now still a very attractive car which is a CURRENT car. Z8 IMO was the worst sport BMW of all times it was not a good Super car and was not a good roadster. Current M3 is other story, Great , reasonable price and nice engine note, the best M3 Ever and the best sport everyday winding roads eater.
Also GTR (for the price, best sport car of all times), MB SLS With eject-able doors (explosives blow away the doors if sensors detects that the car will go upside down) which is ugly as sin but sales say is big hit, to the point that M division is pushing to create a competitor.
SL65 BK Series, Lamborghini Aventador, Lexus LF-A, and The current C63 Sedan....Pure power at good price in a compact size, it is a portable rocket with 5 seats. I did not test it, but I wish I could, I think M5 might be a good collectable car in 10 years, I am not sure but I think is the First Production M5 with turbos....the car is awesome. The Panamera Turbo S.....First four door (Successful) attempt of Porsche of production car and it is an extraordinary car. Finally the CLS cause is a beautiful and outstanding trend setter. I wish I could say the same for BMW X6 , but AMC did it before with the Eagle. X6 Is ugly but wow is magnet for women in my country. If you are single, drive one and women will chase you....lol

Issues such as those have little effect over how collectible something is. The Delorean would have been off the chart decades ago if issues had any role in how collectable it is.

If anything the limited production runs will be the biggest determining factor of a vehicles collect ability.

Z8, no doubt... The R8 is mass marketed and does not have the rarity or intriging image as the Z8.

blazinboy is right. BMW AG is very proud of the E52 Z8. They support the BMW Z8 Club, and last year they held the largest number of Z8's in the world at BMW AG. Owners flew their cars from around the world for this event.

The board of directors got pitched the idea of a car the would be an updated decendant of the 507. They approved the car in 1992, and they started work in 1993. People say the Z8 was a flop and it was not. They believed they could build 4,000 units. They sold 5,703. The Robb Report said in 2001 that the Z8 was on the future collectibles list and they started appreciating around 2004 after the last year. They stated that this would be the car to look for at Pebble Beach in 2020. And it appears that will be true.

The car did have some strut tower issues and it is easy to find out by the VIN. Henrik Fisker patented the design and the design is based on a sea shell that is known to be perfect in all dimensions. The car was made from aluminum extrusions that are very expensive to build. And BMW built the car as a thank you to it clients worldwide and that would be last car that they built that could be considered "retro" to end the century. R8, probably not. The Spyders are collecting dust at dealers around the country, and based on in the exotic car world an ancient chassis (2004 Gallardo). This could change down the road but possibly the R8 GT with 333 units and the R8 GT Spyder with only 90 units coming to the USA.

Between the Z8 and R8? Z8 all the way just because of that visual connection to the legendary BMW 507 Roadster.
