SPIED: Jaguar's XF Is Getting An EXTRA Long Back, Shooting Brake For 2013?
One trend that has been running rampant in the luxury car kingdom is the newfound adoration for wagons. While this is good news for enthusiasts and auto writers, who have an obsession with tarted up wagons, it strikes me as peculiar.

Though there is some utility with wagons, it's not nearly as spacious and versatile as a sport-utility vehicle. In addition, most luxury wagons aren't achieving significant fuel efficiency over its SUV counterparts. When you consider the superb ride quality, extra space and car-like drive many of today's SUVs have, it just doesn't seem to add up.

Why wagons?

Anyway, it's patently obvious after these spy images, which came from overseas, that Jaguar is itching to get into this race.

I guess that means Jaguar will not be producing an SUV in the near-term future.

The XF makes for a great looking sportwagon. Love the refreshed front end treatment and the wheels. Nice to see Jaguar go back to the more aggressive look of the original concept.

Personally, I prefer a sportwagon over an SUV as they tend to handle much better without sacrificing much, if anything, in the way of interior space. Here, in Southern California, ground clearance and awd isn't necessary.

I agree with you re: SoCal. Ground clearance and AWD isn't neccessary; however, that doesn't stop folks from buying Range Rovers in SoCal.

I agree 100%. When there's the 7-seat E-class wagon and its AMG counterpart, who needs an Escalade?

Too pretty to be a wagon. Why not a coupe/cabrio to rival E class, A5...etc

Exactly. While I'm not against Jag and a wagon (I'm actually a fan of wagons), it's the XF's look that doesn't go with the wagon body.

On a side note: To answer the question in the article, the reason why most prefer wagons over a SUV or Crossover is because they normally handle as well as their sedan counterpart. (Idk, just MHO)
