Daimler Kills Off Super Luxury Maybach Brand
Daimler AG will shut down the super-luxury Maybach brand to end almost a decade of losses from an auto that sells for more than $350,000 when a revamped version of the flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes to market in 2013.

"It would not make sense to develop a successor model," Chief Executive Officer Dieter Zetsche said in remarks confirmed by Daimler spokesman Marc Binder. "The coming S-Class is in such a way a superior vehicle that it can replace the Maybach."

This was expected wasn't it. Reviving a forgotten 1930s brand was a mistake. Maybach was not missed before and will not be missed now.

It wasn't so much that reviving a brand is a mistake, it that they did it with a car that looked barely distinguishable from a Mercedes.

...And it wasn't that the car looked barely distinguishable from a Mercedes, it's the fact that they built it off an S-Class model that was on the way out! The new S-Class debuted and the Maybach was still stuck with the previous generation S-Class credentials.

If my plain old MB costs $350 for an annual oil change (MB dealer service A or B)waether I drive 13 miles a year or 13K a year, I can imagine what the Maybach would run.... That is exactly why I just bought a new 2012 car ind it is not a Daimler product.

Do tell what your new vehicle is! I want to see where (on average) the "Daimler owner" goes after life with a Benz!

Side note: I am NOT being sarcastic. I read somewhere that a lot of Audi owners come from... Nevermind! I won't say, but it was a surprise!

I got rid of my '05 Mercedes CLK500 for a Dodge Caliber SRT4. I don't think a shift in car tastes gets more abnormal than that. I wanted more room and a 6speed turbo. Don't get me wrong, the car truly is a POS but, it's so freaking cheap to maintain, and I'm not worried about messing up the paint or body because it's already a bit beat up. I was always worried some costly repair would befall my mercedes.

Unfortunately I nailed a coyote at about 85mph on the Florida Turnpike driving down for Thanksgiving just recently. He took out my front bumper, beat in the radiator and damaged something with the transmission because the fluid evacuated in less than 2 minutes. I hope the car is totalled because I'm really starting to love the VW Passat CC 2.0T rental car I have, even though it's still ugly as sin.

Well, Bentley pretty much is up there with some very expensive cars to compare with Rolls, like the Mulsanne, the Brooklands is expensive. Rolls is for the driven, Bentley is for the driver. I will still not buy either if I could!

New car is a '12 Hyundai Genesis - fit, finnish, features, waranty(Hyundai [not secondary market]bumper to bumper for 10yr/100K for an additional $1500), horsepower, and value. I still own an '06 CLK500 -love the car, hate the dealer service costs.

Yes, I do know how to change the motor oil in my cars. However, 1st, in typical MB fassion, the car does not have a dip stick, you have to check the oil level through the computer. 2nd, resetting the computer that anoyingly reminds you that you will soon need (or are late for) an oil change is a pain in the arse.... Anyhow, I long ago found a shop that specializes in MB and does great work for about 1/4 of what MB dealers charge.
