The Germans have not been serious about developing hybrids because there is no great demand for them in Europe.

In America and Japan, where a diesel stigma exists, hybrids make more sense.

Oh yes, because the Japanese are clearly the ones gaining market share. The Germans are near extinction what with a number of their +40% year over year sales gains lol.
