Could BMW's New 3'er Armed With A Four-Banger Be As REVOLUTIONARY As The 335's Motor?

Could BMW's New 3'er Armed With A Four-Banger Be As REVOLUTIONARY As The 335's Motor?
Now, if you've been following the all-new BMW 3-Series you would know by now that BMW plans to offer it with a new motor. To be more specific, a four-cylinder.

Aside from the new Z4, which also uses the same engine, this is the first time BMW has offered a four-cylinder powerplant to the U-S-of-A since the 318Ti.

According to 001, who has been relaying notes to me, the four-banger engine is simply outstanding. He furthers on by saying that combined with the eight-speed transmissin, Eco mode and start/stop technology, the vehicle gets "virtually identical mileage to the 335d."

Considering 001 owns a "d," that's a bold claim.

With that said, could the all-new motor have the same impact as the 335s when it first debuted?

and what was the impact of the 335d? My recollection is it has disappointing sales and has so much torque BMS couldnt source a manual. BMW should have brought over the 320d

Impressive economy, is it a direct injection?

The only thing revolutionary about the N54 was the door that it went into and then out of because of all of the issues.

Why is the I4 turbo revolutionary when it only improved mpg by 1? BMW should be honest and says that it's for weight reduction which result increase fuel efficiency.

My lawnmower has two cylinders. So it is half as good as BMW.

I am impressed with the power of the 4 cylinder but not suprisingly it is well executed. Not quite as impressive as throw you back in your seats 335 like I have, but still a very worthy motor for those not looking for as much punch as the turbo six pot.

Isn't this the same 4 banger that's already in the X1?

This car will be a huge seller! (competition must be nervous by now). Can't wait to put my hands on one!

Not really news. Since the 2012 528i in the U.S. already had this same engine, it was only obvious that the 328i would get this engine as well.
