Chrysler Closes Out November Sales With A 45% Explosion

looking at the sales of the Avenger is proof most American buyers have no clue when it comes to cars. Of course most are fleet sales, so Bill, Thank Enterprise, Avis, Budget, etc for saving your company from bankruptcy.

Yeah the Cherokee and Durango are not bad products. Thanbk Mercedes for the Chassis. SRT will not be taking out any europ trash. Chrysler lacks refinement and any good suspension system. 3 generation old Mercedes E-Class suspension isn't going to do it for them. Better than Ford and GM? Yes, absolutely. More engagine to drive than the big 3 from Japan? Absolutely More engaging to drive than the Koreans? Absolutely, but none of those are on my shopping list, and they still are not up with the Europeans yet. They are a regualr American car company, not a high end luxury company. You have regular cars like Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Hyundai, Kia, then you have BMW/Mercedes/Audi, with VW in between, although VW has leaned further from the mid market and closer to the aforementioned brands.

85bmw745i... Can't give Merc any credit for the LX and LY chassis or suspension systems anymore. Chrysler engineers have modified, refined and highly improved it to a point that nothing is the same. With that the LY chassis under the 392 SRT Challenger @ 4100 lbs is capabile of .93Gs And by the way the Merc SLS has a chassis that has been touted by Diamler as their finest and the truth of the matter it was developed by Dodge SRT engineering. Currently the only similar chassis Chrysler has with Merc is Durango and GC even those are not direct duplicates. And your comment on "Chrysler lacks Refinement" may I remind you of a 2year old Viper cleaning the clock on a $400,000.00 LFA.

bfg, how in the hell does refinement have anything to do with the viper beating an LF-A? Refinement didn't have anything to do with it, but Chrysler and its fan-boys don't know what the word refinement means, hence your hilarious statement lol. Refinement is just that. For example a Lexus LF-A is far more refined than a viper, inside and out, meaning the inside is far better built and smoother, outside meaning it drives much better at both low and high speeds and is much more fluid in its movements. numbers are one thing, how many people would lose control of the viper before even being able to extract those figures? put an average driver in both cars and the LF-A would win every time. Why do you think Chrysler had top have a race car driver and a whole team while the Lexus simply showed up? I would hope it could beat the LF-A considering it has twice the engine and none of the luxuries and amenities. That version of the Viper is a barely street legal version of the race car. The LF-A is a grand tourer, with things like nicely finished panels, properly fitting interior pieces and overall great craftsmanship, something Chrysler has never heard of. So it barely beat the LF-A big deal, I am not a Lexus fan anyways but would much rather have the LF-A than the brute obnoxious cheaply made Viper.

Real Story #1: Mercedes brought 3 ML-series SUVs to Chrysler's AZ proving grounds in the early 2000s. They attempted to run the vehicles on the same circuit as the Jeep GC. Within two-weeks, the Mercedes team had burned through their budget of replacement parts after repeated suspension failures. The ML's limped to the end their test on the same course used by the Sebring convertible.

Real Story #2: The first Mercedes attempt at a hill-descent system proved a failure in testing at Chrysler facilities because the vehicle kept activating the ABS system and bringing it to a halt. Chrysler engineers re-wrote the software to allow differences in wheel speed when in hill descent mode.

Now you tell me, which company took the lead in developing an the next SUV platform? Take my word, or the guy giving his opinions as fact.

The ML isn't designed to go offroad like a Jeep. You might as well ahve taken an R class up there. Funny how the 2000 ML my wife has drives better than any new Chrysler SUV despite having 197,000 miles on it. Not only that the leather still looks new, and nothing in the interior has fallen apart, and the ML was one of the worst vehicles Mercedes ever brought to the U.S. Bottom line, I have driven the new Chryslers and they Suck except for a few. the 200/Avenger=unrefined garbage. the Liberty/Nitro=unrefined garbage. The charger/challenger? great performing if you get the SRT versions. Grand Cherokee/Durango? Better than anything GM or Ford puts out. coincidentally those are the ones that began life from a Mercedes chassis. Sure Chrysler did their tweaks, they should have. You can't just underpin a totally different vehicle using a Mercedes chassis, things would, and should, have to be changed in order for that chassis to work with that particular vehicle. If you have a great base platform to work with you can achieve more. Bad grapes don't make good wine no matter how you do it. Good grapes can make a great wine even if the winery isn't exactly the best at making wine.

Who cares about your unrelated hyperbole opinion?

You said "Yeah the Cherokee and Durango are not bad products. Thanbk [sic] Mercedes for the Chassis."

I told you that MB couldn't design a decent off-road vehicle without the capable engineers at Jeep, and cited a few examples of prior ML failings.

You respond: "The ML isn't designed to go offroad like a Jeep." Then more nonsense about your personal opinions and a story about grapes. The only grapes I see here are the sour ones you spout-off.

Actually I did go offroad in my wifes 2000 ml320 and my neighbor across the street has a grand cherokee and could not make it where the ML320 went. Once I disabled the ESP it was unstoppable. The jeep kept spinning one front tire and one rear tire. Cherokees are not good offroad stock. the LR3/LR4 walks all over any cherokee including the new one. And the Mercedes G wagon will walk all over wny Jeep with its locking front, center and rear diffs. Lets not forget the unimog. A novice cook can make a ribeye steak taste good. Let that same person try to cook a chuck eye steak. Mercedes gave Chrysler a ribeye steak so it wasn't that hard to tweak an already superior chassis to work for them. If they were so good why would they source the chassis from mercedes in the first place. They are no longer together anymore. The new cherokee is the most offroad capable stock cherokee ever but still cannot match teh LR4/Discovery offroad. Don't hate me because chryslers only decent products are beased on German vehicles. The Chrysler croddfire was a reskinned SLK, and was even built in Germany. identical interior too. Why is it that the 200/avenger, caliber/compass, nitro/liberty, and patriot are such poorly made vehicles and were behind the competitions older models when they first came out? they only good Chrysler product not made on a Mercedes platform is the wrangler, and only because a vehicle like that is not expected to be refined and well built. Chrysler is doing better than it ever has but it is not the holy grail of the auto industry. Too many inconsistencies. You have a well built charger/300 but a crappy outdated 200/avenger, crappy caliber, poor;y made nitro/liberty but well made cherokee. If all of their cars were consistently mediocre I would have more respect for them then having a bunch of mixed good and bad products. Ford and GM cars are pretty consistent across the board. Hopefully Chrysler will continue their improvements to these crappy vehicles in their lineup.

beaterBMWi,

I enjoy making you type. I started laughing (and stopped listening) when you said "Cherokees are not good offroad stock" based on your experience driving your life-partner's ML320. The Unimog is about as relevant as saying "A Cat bulldozer is a great off-road vehicle"... Problem is, it's a horrible passenger vehicle.

You have never been any closer to the industry than when you bring your mechanized junk in for (frequent) maintenance or repairs at the dealer. I'm not going to learn anything from your posts beyond what you've interpreted magazines.

Good day sir.
