Rear drive could be the game changer for Cadillac ELR
General Motors has yet to confirm if the upcoming Cadillac ELR is front-wheel drive like the Volt or is a rear-wheel drive. Last August, Cadillac said that the brand will build extended-range vehicle dubbed as the ELR. The sleek 2+2 coupe is based on the Cadillac Converj concept displayed at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

I think they need this, but I doubt this will happen. If I were a engineering the project, the T-shape would be over the front wheels and the on board generator would be in the rear.

I think they will find a way to make a RWD version happen, but it may not be as efficient as a FWD version.

I can't understand why Cadillac would take a step backwards after how well the CTS is doing, and not only that, but how well it competes with the europeans, something Cadillac could never dream about before. I still can't understand why the new sedan to replace the DTS is front wheel drive. A large rear wheel drive chassis would drive just as smooth and handle much better.

I think it has been discussed that the DTS/STS replacement, the XTS, do well in offering something for those who like both the DTS & STS models. The XTS is big car and does offer an AWD option. Also, remember that the DTS was FWD and sold well --- so the XTS is going to have descent sales figures.

And Cadillac is still planning to build a true large car flagship. The XTS though nice, is not the end-all to their overall vehicle plan.

Especially after all of that work and development they put into the CTS's Rear wheel drive chassis.

Good point 1911. I can't believe how ignorant we are here in America when it comes to cars. @dumpsty, Good point as well, and I took all of that into consideration before I posted but I still think if they want to Rejuvenate Caddy RWD/AWD across the board would be a great start.

As I see Cadillac is more BMW day by day , sound interesting. Why they don't have their own personality.
