A Study Comes Out And Proves What The Agents Have Been Saying For MONTHS
I don't mean to sit around and toot the AutoSpies horn here but T00T T00T.

For quite a while around these parts, 001 and I have been sitting back and noticing a cultural shift, predominantly among young drivers. For the sake of brevity:

Teen drivers aren't as compelled to get licenses anymore.

Between a heightened world of connectivity, rising costs of insurance, rising costs of fuel and the growing importance of the connected mobile device -- hooked up to social media channels --, the auto is losing ground.

Although here is something I didn't see: older drivers are holding onto their licenses longer. Yikes, now that's a problem that's worth addressing.

Considering how many states are going through tough fiscal times, why not have cyclical road tests when licenses expire. Then, state DMVs can build that into a higher price for renewal. Not only will the roads be safer but maybe some budgets can get -- somewhat -- adjusted.

Younger Americans aren't speeding to get a driver's license.

A study by the University of Michigan released Thursday found a lower proportion of young people have a driver's license today compared to their counterparts in the early 1980s.

About 87 percent of 19-year-olds in 1983 had their licenses, but in 2008, that percentage fell to about 75 percent.

At the same time, there's been a dramatic increase in the number of older Americans holding onto their driver's licenses...

The teens not getting there licence is due to the pathetic economy, it'd got nothing to do with social media or cel phones, and in most cities transit takes about 2-6 times longer than driving, I couldn't imagine not having a car, I would love to live on the edge of the city where I wouldn't have to the daily commute.

Regarding older drivers...you can take my license from my cold dead hands. Yours too...your time to reconsider will come sooner than you think !

Ah, the cost of a good used car plus gas, and auto insurance all adds up and takes a huge percentage out of most Americans budgets, how can teens afford this?

How many self congratulatory articles are the spies going to post? Can I post one saying how right I was about gas prices going down a bit?

The reason they are not getting licenses is simple...they can't pass the tests. And, many of them are still being driven around by mommy, while still living at home when they are in their 30's.

As for the older generation holding on to their licenses, what's your problem? I have an '11 Mustang GT/CS, with a six speed. My drive, into the city aveages 75 mph. I have no tickets, and no accidents If everyone were required to drive a manual, your lot wouldn't know what to do since you couldn't text, talk and shift at the same time. You can have my license when the state takes your %^&^& cell phone off you while in a car!
