STUD OR DUD: Volkswagen Planning To Take On Mini With A Smaller SUV?

Volkswagen AG will launch a small crossover below the compact Tiguan as part of a plan to expand its crossover range, design boss Walter de' Silva told Automotive News Europe.

VW wants to add crossovers of different sizes and with different design characteristics to appeal to a wider audience.

"Crossovers demand is expanding from mature markets to emerging markets and we have to cover this growing appetite with a multilateral expansion in the offer of our brands," VW Group design director Walter de' Silva said on the sidelines of the auto show here.

Yeah except this doesn't look awkward and ugly and have a repulsively cheap interior like the compass, plus it will outperform the compass and be a hell of alot more fun to drive. Other than the front end this thing looks great. Kudos to the interior as well. I hope they don't tone the production version too far down like most automakers do. They need to leave the interior the way it is.

From what Ive seen the current compass hasn't exactly been the most reliable vehicle, so I don't see this being any better or worse as far as reliability is concerned, plus reliability between models as of late is so close I don't think it would matter much. Bottom line is this is far better than the compass.
