Mercedes-Benz Sets Sights On BMW in 2012 After "Trouncing" Lexus In 2011

Mercedes-Benz Sets Sights On BMW in 2012 After
Helped by the hefty Sprinter commercial van and the diminutive Smart 2-seat city car, Mercedes-Benz USA will break its annual sales-volume record this year, predicts Steve Cannon, vice president-marketing.

“We should finish 2011 with sales that are north of 240,000 units” when the Sprinter and Smart are included in the total, he tells WardsAuto.

The German auto maker’s deliveries through November totaled 238,971, according to Ward’s data. Cannon says that’s a 12% improvement over like-2010, adding, “We might drop to 10% by year-end, but it will be the first time we will trounce Lexus.”

"Yeah, adding Smart, Sprinter, MINI, et al in this silly battle. The incentives to customers current to buy #1 is amusing at least."

Nice excuse. Smart and Sprinter sales are classified under, um, SMART and COMMERCIAL VEHICLES.

MINI is not part of the Daimler group but is owned by BMW.

Your credibility is a joke.

Funny comment 1911 but it doesn't appear that way.

A new GS and possibly ES are not going to stop Stuttgart next year.

ToyoLex have a long road ahead of them.... In this business if you sneeze or hiccup your dead meat- it is THAT competitive and the German juggernaut shows no signs of slowing down.

1911 stop kidding yourself, LEXUS is currently doing just that, piling on thousands and thousands of cash on the hood. That is how they convinced me to get my LS 460. Just look at today's announcement on BLOOMBERG, "Toyota Cuts Annual Profit Forecast by 54% After Thai Floods Disrupt Output." LEXUS is doing whatever possible to meet sales targets and make some profits.

grysko LEXUS is just a player here in the US but they are slowly breaking into the markets overseas except for East Asia. They do understand the US market, especially the baby boomer generation that have been buying their cars like crazy.

I am assuming you believe everything posted in Edmunds or internet, how naive. My proof, come here to Jacksonville and I will gladly take you to LEXUS of Jacksonville where I purchased my car. We will discuss all the incentives they are offering with the sales manager (friend of mine). I get continous requests from them to trade in my car for a newer model. BTW I received a $7,500 rebate on my 2008 LS 460.
Love to stay and waste my time with your ignorance and biased statements but got to run, heading to the night of lights St Augustine. Enjoy your evening. Are you a sales person for LEXUS? Geesh! You are obsessed, do you even own one?

Before I forget, go to OVERSTOCK.com and see how much you can get off a 2011 LS 460. Hint around $7,300!

Exactly- ToyoLex is offering huge incentives to move inventory because they are just not as "hot" of a brand as they once were.

Doesn't mean they won't be again.

Which is why they need to make the Supra NOW....

OMG! I am amazed by the ignorace on this board. Do you even have a high school education? What I am saying is that you cannot base your research on just one source. Go to Edmunds, Vehix, carsdirect or overstock and you will get different information on rebates and incentives. NOT one source has the correct information except for the dealer themselves. This is why I trust the "RELIABLE salesman in Jacksonville FL". He can show me what the car companies don't want the regular joe to see posted on websites. Basic Finance 101!
Your reasoning is correct, MOST customers get persuaded by rebates and incentives just like I did when I purchased my car. As I have stated before in this site, I wanted an S-Class but the LEXUS deal was too good to pass. I love my car but I would rather had the S-Class if MB would had given me a better deal (better rebate and price).
Toyota/Lexus are currently giving some of the best deals in the market in order to increase profits lost due to the big hit they took in Thailand due to the floods. Open your mind/eyes and you will understand that all the auto companies care is about the bottom line. Some do it by volumes while others by margins. In the end, it's not really about the numbers of cars but the profits getting returned to the shareholders.
Good luck with your tantrums and continue preaching your LEXUS agenda. I will sell you mine!

You forgot the Lexus IS. What a cheap car!

JapanEngineeringNo1 OK, I have complained about my car before. I guess this is due to maybe "midlife crisis" LoL. I might be the only 43 y/o in Florida that owns one. Most of my buddies own the sporty cars (M3, 911, G35 & C-Coupe). I guess I am itching for something like that too (M3 or GTR).
My point all along is that I am not loyal to any car manufacturer. Why should I be? I buy what I like as long as I can afford it (between my military pension and my current job I am in the mid 5% of income earners) in other words I can afford almost 95% of the cars available. I don't buy a car to impress anyone but I understand that some people do. I do put a lot of miles in the cars since I travel for business quite a bit (sales in the Pharma industry). Most of these individuals that you are talking about just aspire to the finer things in life or maybe are just keeping up with the Joneses but because of that mentality is that this country is in such a huge economic mess. This are the people that MB, BMW and LEXUS are targeting with their entry level luxury cars. I personnaly have thought about purchasing a VW GTI (which I love), what does that make me?
As for your comments about "cheap MBs", just remember that that is how Lexus, Infiniti and Acura broke into the US markets. They created great luxury cars at much lower prices than the Germans with the intention of having their Toyota, Nissan and Honda customers upgrade to them. Magnificent strategy!
BTW Are you overseas that you are posting at 3am?
GO NAVY BEAT ARMY!
