Elantra Scores A Direct Hit On The Competition - Can the Veloster Do The Same?
The 2011 Hyundai Elantra has had folks sitting up and taking notice with its dramatic restyling, solid build, noteworthy performance, safety features galore, and super fuel economy.  With a banner North American retail year under its wheels, the Elantra, hands-down is a definite leader of the pack with an unprecedented 43 percent sales increase--216,331 vs. 151,735.  Reportedly, the Korean automaker has now surpassed its 600,000 U.S. annual sales mark fueling past all expectations for the first time in its 25-year history.

"Elantra has been an absolute phenomenon in the compact car segment," says John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America President and CEO. "In November, Elantra retail sales were up 37 percent, in spite of significant competition from all-new entries such as the Chevy Cruze, Ford Focus and Honda Civic."

Motor Trend or Car and Driver or maybe another car magazine that it's journalists prefer a good meal and some cash in exchange of a positive article.....

Well, it also won the AutoSpies.com car of the year

Autospies.com, one of the highest ranked automotive information sites, named the 2011 Hyundai Elantra “Car of the Year.” In selecting Elantra as “Car of the Year”, the Autospies.com editors reference the Elantra’s “hybrid-like mileage of 40 mpg highway, gorgeous styling not even known in the compact category until now and acres of interior room with gorgeous fit and finish” as “changing the paradigm in its segment.”

“Hyundai has single-handedly changed the compact car segment by creating the first ‘premium’ compact that is affordable to the masses,” said Donald Buffamanti, founder of leading automotive social media site, AutoSpies.com. “Starting at a price of $14,830 with clThis year's car of the year is special for a number of reasons.

1. It's groundbreaking in the segment
2. It changes the paradigm in its segment
3. It offers best of breed capabilities that the competitors can't touch.
4. And this year, because it's price is almost too good to be true

Class-leading interior volume and an Environmental Protection Agency rated MPG of 29/40 city/highway, the 2011 Elantra is a well-rounded compact car that bests the rest.”

It's SO good, I bought one with my own money for 001jr.

Umm this magical 40 mpg....why can't anyone replicated this? Motortrend put it behind several cars in terms of its testing for fuel economy.

Most reviews positive. However real world mileage doesn't approach EPA ratings. Also uncommunicative steering, body roll, generally "un-sporty".
In my experience, Hyundai resale values kinda suck. And until I drive one of these things to see how they feel at 150,000 thousand miles, I think I'm sticking to my Jap cars.
The Elantra is a good car, but if not for the styling and the traditional cheap Hyundai price, it would not be so special. I work in auto body, and these Korean uni-bodies are some of the easiest to pull back into shape--read: pretty light duty structure.
One upside for us all is that it is good enough to encourage improvement for this class of cars which can only be all good.

Once again, what we have are some spoilt fan boys who can't face the truth of facts.

You can't argue facts so you prefer to tear down and criticize. Well, too bad. Hyundai is rocking your boat. Rock on!

"KIA has ground breaking design because their German designer remembered what his Audis looked like? Or he know's how to replicate 99% of an Accord?"

Audi? You see Audi in the Sportage and Rio which received design awards?

Well if you see Audi in the Rio I see Mazda 3 hatch in the 2012 Nissan Versa hatch.
