Subaru And Toyota Listed As Top Automakers For Crashworthiness

Toyota Motor Corp. and Subaru emerged among the top automakers in crash tests of model-year 2012 cars and trucks conducted by a U.S. insurance industry group.
Toyota, based in Toyota City, Japan, had 15 vehicles, more than any other carmaker, qualify as a “top safety pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Toyota's new additions to the list, published since 2005, include the Yaris, the Camry and the Prius hybrid. Subaru, a unit of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., is the sole maker to have all of its 2012 models earn the grade, the institute said in an e-mailed statement today.
