Huh? Romney Blames Obama For GM Layoffs Rather Than Poor Management
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney says President Barack Obama closed factories and laid off workers at General Motors as part of the automaker's 2009 restructuring.

The new line of defense is part of an effort by Romney to shield himself against criticism that as a partner at private equity firm Bain Capital, the company slashed tens of thousands of jobs.

"The president has had one experience overseeing an enterprise — a couple of enterprises, General Motors and Chrysler," Romney told Fox News in an interview that aired Sunday. "What did he do? He closed factories. He laid off people. He didn't do it personally, but his people did. Why did he do that? Because he wanted to save the enterprise, and he wants to make it profitable so it can survive."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't poor management be keeping the jobs, losing more money and going bankrupt again?

I am so tired of politicians.

Under certain circumstances eviscerating large sections of a company and its labor force is the way to save it.

The fact of the matter is that we- that is, people in general- simply do not elect truly intelligent people to office. This is for two reasons 1) truly intelligent people generally don't want to be politicians 2) they are un-electable. I am reminded of something MvS once said in an interview; "I do not argue". The insinuation was that one may either choose to agree with her, or be wrong the majority of the time; the unique prerogative of the person with the highest IQ ever recorded, but unelectable.

I think there are intelligent people voted into office, as there are a tremendous amount of riches to be gained, however, it's never on display. It doesn't need to be. Our electoral system has been structured to be a two-party system so that the conversation can be easily controlled and never have to get beyond the polar, but ultimately superficial, debates (pro-jobs/anti-jobs, pro-life/pro-choice, big-business/big-government, etc.).

Well, I admit a mis-statement on my part; extremely intelligent people are not elected to office. There are plenty of people who are intelligent- or at least educated, and in about half of those cases educated beyond their compentency- in politics. People like Marilyn, who is another kind of human being entirely, simply are not elected.

Under a Romney administration, there will be no more layoffs or bankruptcies even if it means a constitutional amendment.
