Toyota Auris To Be The First To Sport A BMW Diesel Engine
A BMW diesel will first appear in a Toyota sometime during 2014, insiders have confided to Autocar, probably in the next-generation Toyota Auris. A BMW-powered Auris will be the first tangible evidence of a technology tie-up that will see Toyota share its EV battery technology in exchange for access to BMW’s diesel knowledge.

How many complaints about BMW engine reliability do you see out there aside from the 335i?

None.

N54 or N55? HPFP problems plague the N54s...apparently better with the N55s, but still. Hardly a spotless reliability reputation.

No Toyota is getting the N54/N55 engines. Toyota is receiving entry-level BMW diesel engines which rank among the best in Europe in terms of performance, fuel economy and reliability.

If Toyota is worried about reliability then why source engines from BMW? Toyota has thought this through as any serious company would and to them BMW seems to be the engine supplier they deem suits their needs best.

BMW engines, aside from the N54/N55, are high quality engines and very reliable and durable.

You should put 335d then, since the 335i is the gas version. And I am well aware that BMW's diesel engines are fantastic, I've driven them before.

@chris760

This isn't GM where we take a 350cid Oldsmobile V8 and turn it into a 350cid Oldsmobile Diesel V8. The 335d motor has no relation to the 335i engine whatsoever. I don't recall reading about any engine issues with 335d cars.

Have there been any reports of HPFP with the N55? I thought all of that was resolved with the N55 twin-scroll turbo engines!!!

I don't think it has been long enough for a strong consensus? I'm pretty sure it has been fixed though, at least from what I've heard from friends with the N55.
