Are You Surprised? Chevy Volt Costing Taxpayers Up to $250K Per Vehicle
Each Chevy Volt sold thus far may have as much as $250,000 in state and federal dollars in incentives behind it – a total of $3 billion altogether, according to an analysis by James Hohman, assistant director of fiscal policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.

Hohman looked at total state and federal assistance offered for the development and production of the Chevy Volt, General Motors’ plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. His analysis included 18 government deals that included loans, rebates, grants and tax credits. The amount of government assistance does not include the fact that General Motors is currently 26 percent owned by the federal government.

Hmmm, 1911 posted a sensationalist headline such as this? I thought you didn't like it when 009 does that.

"It’s unlikely that all the companies involved in Volt production will ever receive all the $3 billion in incentives"

"That would mean each of the 6,000 Volts sold would be subsidized between $50,000 and $250,000, depending on how many government subsidy milestones are realized."

"Some tax credits and subsidies are offered for periods up to 20 years"

So let me see... they took 5x the minimum subsidization, and 20 years of incentives and divided it by the very first year of production which had most of it limited to a few states? lol ook that's not biased at all </sarcasm>

Actually I took the liberty of adding "Are You Suprized?".

I appreciated an article from one of our more outspoken readers.

I understand that, but we need to do it sometimes for formatting or impact. We try not to edit the content in anyway however. Thanks again for the post.

I have two reactions to this:
1. This means that the taxpayers should get at least one each to get their money's worth ;)
2. So much hate, so much FUD, I think we're about ready for Chris Paine to make another sequel, "Who Killed the Electric Car? Again!"

I am more disappointed than surprised. I expected a little more integrity and objectivity from 009. I think his 00 status should be suspended pending inquiry for misconduct.

Dumb headline, dumb interpretation, largely due to poor math and reasoning. Time to go back to school! On a diff note, this is the first time I've guessed wrong. darn!! This read like a classic 009 article. Now my accuracy is down from 100% to 99%...but then again could it be 009 masquerading as another user?

Anything obama touches turns to failure and excessive expenditure. obama is a curse, a disease on the country. Nationalizing Government Motors was just the beginning. Giving the communist unions 40% of GM as a gift was step #2.
