Already Left Behind At The Starting Line? New NSX To Only Have 400HP
The Honda NSX supercar is set to return as a 400bhp four-wheel-drive hybrid. Honda has already confirmed that a new NSX will be revealed at the Detroit Motor Show in January, and now we have more information on the Japanese Audi R8 rival.

We’ve already seen spy shots of a concept car on the set of the new Avengers movie, and we’ve since had confirmation that the Detroit show car will be heavily based on that model. Our images show a coupe, but the final production version will also be offered as a roadster.

If they keep the weight down 400hp is more than enough. The Carrara S "Only" has 400 hp also..Im also sure they will release high spec versions at later dates. Acura more or less created the affordable mid-engine sports car, it should be intresting to see how they move the game along.

400hp, SH-AWD, hybrid? Those few specs sounds exciting knowing it probably wont have an insane purchase price.

The next NSX will be light overall. Unless it has quality issues, should be a sales hit.

Didnt the 2008 GT-R only have 415-425hp??

Seems to compete just fine, leaving the competition in the dust.

The new carrara s laps the ring in 7:40 with 400 hp, where the R8 V10 does it in 7:44 with 520, power isn’t everything.

M3 is "just 418 hp" and still great. NSX with 400 hp , I am sure will be supreme ..

No, the GTR had 480 hp when it first came out. But, for this to be a super car 400 hps are not enough, since this car will probably be out in 1 or 2 years from now, or even more, and the R8 today has 430 hps, so when the NSX is out it better be up to its competitors and not fall behind with power yet match or be close to match them in price wise.

If they can keep it lightweight and mate it to the right transmission, they will have a hell of a car. Porsche has demonstrated this excellently.

Exactly 1911! +1 The original NSX did quite a bit with less than 300hp. It sent the other guys running back to the drawing board. At one time it was considered the worlds best handling sports car. It weight that required todays cars to have so much power. The Ferrari F40 only had around 400hp and it is still fast by todays standards. Japanese race and test driver Motoharu Kurosawa piloted a 2003 NSX-R around the Nurburgring road course in 7:56, equal to a Ferrari F360 Challenge Stradale despite having over 100hp less than the the Ferrari.

Honda clearly does not want their NSX to be in contention with other rocket cars like the GT-R and Porsche. That is there decision.
And customers will make their decision whether to buy a slower Honda sports car.

The original NSX was also near the bottom of the performance envelope.

Sports cars become less like sports cars as the weight increases over 3000#. Thus, why would it need more than 400 hp?
Less is more ie. Porsche, Lotus, etc. Can't wait to see the new NSX.

Weight is #1 enemy of sports car designs.
More power can compensate weight, but too much weight still hurts stopping and road-holding. I will take a 400hp/3000lb NSX over a 500hp/3800lb GT-R at the same
price.

Who says that it will be light? Sounds like it won't be very light like many here are predicting.

Why buy the NSX over the GTR unless it's more affordable? I can't imagine the NSX has better numbers.

Is the new NSX an economical hybrid or is it a muscular sports car?

Honda better understand that cars that suffer identity crisis always FAIL.

A super car? Ha ha haaaaaa Get a grip, Honda. It's not 1990 anymore.
