UAW Targeting Volkswagen And Mercedes Factories For Unionization

UAW Targeting Volkswagen And Mercedes Factories For Unionization
United Auto Workers, the powerful U.S. auto union, is targeting foreign carmakers, whose workers have repeatedly refused to enter the organization.

According to Reuters, German manufacturers Volkswagen AG and Daimler AG are seen as easier nuts to crack than the Japanese and South Koreans. Failure to win new members in recent years has affected UAW’s finances, forcing it to sell assets and use its strike fund to pay for its activities. UAW president Bob King has appealed to German unions for help and has called on automakers to do the right thing, hoping to get VW and Daimler to let the union make its case directly to workers.

We just purchased a 2012 BMW X3 that was made in South Carolina by NON-UNION WORKERS. We love the car and are happy to have supported the workers in South Carolina. They did a great job of producing a very high quality product at a price we could afford.

We are enjoying the car so much we are even thinking about buying another one with EXACTLY the same options.

However, we are also considering the purchase of a 2012 VW Passat. We will not make a decision to purchase that car until this UAW question is resolved. If the VW workers in Tennessee decide to unionize, we will NOT buy a Passat.

I have purchased American/UAW made cars for the past 50 years.

I will never buy another car made with Union employees.

Yeah Bill, the SRT8 just crushed the X5M.....please, the X5 handed the SRT8 its Arse and towed way better both in power and trailer control. Read the comparo between the SRT8, X5M and Cayenne. I'd say the Jeep got smoked. And the SRT8 is a fine product and I have nothing bad to say about it, but come on, unless you are offroading (which no owner of this cherokee will be doing) the X5 wins hands down. better handling, better driving dynamics and faster across the model range. The Xdrive35i is faster than the 5.7l Hemi. Your blind lust for Chrysler cars makes you say some very delusional and stupid things at times.

except that German Union workers take more pride in their work... which is evident in the quality of german cars. This is nothing new since german cars have been synonymous with quality for decades.

Guess VW & MB Buyers will have to start checking their brakes to make sure the pads are all accounted for before accepting delivery of their new vehicles.

Great!! We've helped destroy US car manufacturers and since they've refused to die off completely, lets instead specialize in turning out low quality products while goofing off and fighting over anything that promotes progress. Better still lets spread the same disease to foreign manufacturers in the US so that the playing field can be leveled and everyone can be equally mediocre. The UAW is a special case: 1940s mentality in the 21st century

i USED to be in auto engineering/manufacturing, performing six-sigma in the Indiana/Michigan/Ontario region. Most of the problems encountered came down to operator (read lazy Union worker) not following process or doing what was easier rather than what was correct. THese people did not care to speak to you, much less to offer recommendations for improvement. They have no incentive and they are ok with this mentality! I have never bough a UAW car and never will. Not only is quality ALWAYS questionable, but the companies, such as GM and Chrysler abused the taxpayer by taking our money without the approval of the majority (thanks to crooked Obamanomics).
