SPIED: Volvo Hatches A Hatch That's Ready To Take Dead Aim On Audi's A3
Volvo isn't exactly known for its hot hatch, the C30. Mainly because it doesn't exactly fit the typical Volvo mantra. But that doesn't mean Volvo has given up.

Oh no, it has something else in its back pocket.

According to our friends at Auto Motor Und Sport, Volvo has been seen testing a larger hatch that's been dubbed the V30. Reports indicate that this vehicle will be bigger than a C30 making it more useful than the teeny C30, but it could use the C's five-cylinder powerplant.

This has folks suggesting that Volvo is going after Audi's much-loved A3 hatchback, which of course, would also square it up with the likes of BMW's 1-Series and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A-Class.

If that's the case, will this seemingly predictable S60 meets XC60 design -- scaled down, of course -- cut the mustard against the Germans offerings?

Well, given that its looks were a little out there for most American buyers and it was teeny didn't help the C30s cause.

I think Volvo could have some potential if its looks follow after the XC60, has four doors and it is bigger.

The 318ti didn't go so well because there was nothing premium about it other than the price. We, the fat Americans, like our spacious interior and big engines. Paying a premium price for a chopped off 3 with a four-banger was/is ridiculous when you could get a Golf GTI and have way more fun without being a pretentious prick. I still do not understand the 1-series and their price point relative to a 3.

So that's the challenge for Volvo and the C30 -- people go for a GTI, a WRX or a Focus instead.
