LEAKED! BMW's 1-Series Patent Image EXPOSES The 3-Door Hatch
If you had any hopes that the all-new 1-Series could look better in its three-door form, uh...

ANYWAY!

Thanks to our friends at 1addicts, we have seen the leaked patent images that show the new 1-Series minus its rear doors. From what I can tell, the three-dimensional computer rendering does not reveal any changes to differentiate the three door from the five-door 1'er.

Any thoughts, Spies?

The F21 1 series 3-door hatchback has now been revealed via this set of patent images.

The F21 is set to be revealed as early as Spring 2012. Expect to see more powerful engines (compared to the F20 1 series 5-door) introduced with the F21. To name a few, we expect a 125i 2.0l turbo inline 4 producing in the ballpark of 220hp and a 125d to complement the 116i, the 118i and the 120d...

Man, that front is just so awful. The "Beluga whale lights" and the oversized kidney grilles just don't mix and match.

I think the original 1er looks quite good compared to this thing - and that's saying a lot.

Agreed.

I think this is a big let down.

Not sure if a future M version can even make up for this...

Wrong. Another 1M, hopefully as hardcore as the current one, would more than make up for this. If BMW keeps the 1M as the die-hard enthusiast's car within its lineup for the next generation, I will be pleased.

Seems a little abrupt. "Pug nosed" comes to mind

Reminds me a bit of the PT cruiser in the rear 3 quarters.

I do not understand the point of this article.

The only difference between the 3 door and the 5 door VW Golf is length and no of doors.
Same goes for the outgoing 1-Series and to a lesser extent the current Audi A3.

So why would BMW suddenly make a differently shaped 1-Series 3 door hatch when it is also going to bring in Coupe and Conv models ?

I really hoped a bit of common sense would emerge in 2012.

Who the hell approved that front end for production, It is just hideous! the rest of the car looks great but that front end ruins it. The front looks out of place as if someone took it from another car and put it on this one. It doesn't follow the design language and flow with the rest of the car.
