This is just junk. You have every car manufacturer now releasing models that cover the entire spectrum all over the world! Why does the US require Lexus, Acura, etc... I mean, I know why, but not letting a brand enter the changing US market? That's just selfish!

It's all about perception. There is no need for Lexus or Acura other than it is "percieved" to be a better brand. The rest of the world already understands that they are the same car and has looked past the name plate.

I am an american and I don't particularly care to american bash, but when it comes to the "prestige" that is behind the luxury name plates it just floors me that americans just don't get it. (though I also didn't get it until I traveled over seas and saw more of the world, really opened my eyes)

So far this way of selling cars has been successful. The latest examples is the Scion brand selling in Toyota dealerships and Mini brand selling in BMW dealerships. But also a huge part of their sales success is due to the fact that Scions' and Minis' are good cars to begin with, plus they have a good amount of consuer demand. Don't know how Smart cars will turn out.
