Spy shots reveal production-ready version of petrol-electric BMW i8 supercar
The BMW i8 is edging nearer to production, as these spy shots prove. In the past, the petrol-electric supercar has been revealed with styling features that aren’t feasible for production, but this camouflaged prototype gives the best hint yet at what to expect when the car goes on sale in 2013.

The glass doors of the concept car look to have been dropped, the sharp nose has been smoothed slightly and the headlights have been moved further forwards in the bonnet. Other touches like the wing mirrors and rear bumper have been tweaked too.

:( I liked the glass doors. This looks more like a suprafried 850i.

This is destined for classic status.

If that rear bumper makes it to production as-is there will be hell to pay, but I agree with FromThePassengerSeat that despite any (or perhaps even many) shortcomings associated with this vehicle it will be featured in a museum someday. Anyone whose ever owned a Jaguar E-type can testify to its various flaws, but at the end of the day it was a head turning car ahead of its time. The Porsche 918 and the BMW i8 will both be remembered, if not for their performance (which is certainly above average but not groundbreaking), then for their technological credentials. Let's face it, these ain't no Aston Martin Lagondas we're dealing with.

Is this thing faster than 'standard' 911 S on Nurburgring? I don't remember anyone calling 911 S a 'supercar', even though it beats all BMWs handily. :)

The 991 911 S is faster than the R8 V10 on the ring...

Finally BMW designs something like this. I think it is beautiful. BMW's 2 doors were all GT's this thing looks like something designed to do battle with supercars.
