When it comes to luxury cars, Americans like Mercedes-Benz and BMW a lot. The two German brands have had a lock on first and second place for most sales in their class for several years. At the end of November, according to automotive information online resource Edmunds.com, BMW was ahead by 1,582 vehicles. That’s not a huge margin, so BMW was willing to sweeten the pot to entice more buyers in December by increasing its incentive spending.

It's going to be close. Mercedes was offering huge incentives on 2012 models to catch BMW. It really doesn't matter who wins. It doesn't prove anything.....

knowitall198: Read the article , in fact MB gave less incentives and no free maintenance...BMW 11% below and MB 9.5% in DEC....you need to see the whole year to say anything, and again ..free maintenance is other way to give incentives... I am willing to hear if that is not in that way...

Also 3 series is the main battle horse of BMW reaching in some cases almost 50 % of sales of all bimmers. I bet MB sold a lot more luxury cars. And in cash, I can bet they got a lot more money than BMW this year. Hopefully the new 3 keep the trend , but for me it looks ugly..but the vote of the majority will tell us the whole story.
